# Create a Query

## What is this feature?

A Query is the basis Syncly Social uses to collect and analyze data. Customers register the brands, products, topics, and other targets they want to analyze as Queries, then review the results in Query Dashboard.

## When should I use it?

* When you want to track social reactions to a new brand
* When you want to monitor mentions of a specific product or campaign
* When you want to analyze customer reactions and content trends around a specific topic

## Before you start

* You must have a workspace.
* You need permission to create Queries.
* Your workspace may have Query policies or usage limits.
* The collection sources you select must be available.

## How to use it

### 1. Select a Query type

1. Enter the workspace.
2. Go to the Query menu.
3. Select Brand, Product, or Topic.

You can use each type as follows.

| Type | Example use case |
| ------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| Brand | Monitor your own brand or competitor brands |
| Product | Analyze reactions to a specific product or product line |
| Topic | Analyze campaigns, issues, or consumer interests |

### 2. Enter Query information

1. Enter a Query name.
2. Enter the keywords, subject, and target information for the analysis target.
3. Select collection sources or conditions if needed.
4. Review your inputs.

### 3. Generate Topic Query candidates

For a Topic Query, you can first generate candidate definitions based on the subject and target you entered.

1. On the Topic Query creation screen, enter the subject and target.
2. Run candidate generation.
3. Review the generated candidates.
4. Select or edit the appropriate candidate, then continue creating the Query.

Brand and Product Queries may prepare the required definitions automatically during creation without a separate candidate generation step.

### 4. Continue after the Query is created

When the Query is created successfully, you are taken to its Query Dashboard. By default, the Performance tab or another primary analysis tab may open.

## Key options

## Frequently asked questions

### I created a Query, but I do not see results right away.

After a Query is created, collection and analysis run in sequence. It may take some time before results appear.

### When should I use Topic candidate generation?

Use it when you want to refine the analysis topic before creating a Topic Query. Candidate generation does not create the Query itself; it helps prepare the inputs for Query creation.

### Can I edit only the Query name?

You can edit the Query display name through the edit menu provided in the product UI.
