Getting started with Syncly

Syncly is an analytics tool that collects and analyzes social data about brands, products, and topics so you can quickly understand customer reactions. This document gives first-time Syncly users a short walkthrough of what to check first when they receive access to a prepared workspace. Rather than covering detailed setup, it focuses on understanding where to look and what to look for.

What you’ll learn in this document

By following this Quick Start, you can review the full workflow at a glance:
  1. Access your workspace.
  2. Review a prepared Query.
  3. Explore collected Posts.
  4. Check key metrics and charts in the Dashboard.
  5. Understand that irrelevant Posts can be excluded as Noise.
  6. Ask questions about your data with Hey Syncly.
  7. Review or share analysis results as a Report.

Before you begin

When you first use Syncly, you only need to understand these three concepts:
TermSimple meaning
WorkspaceA space for managing data by team, brand, or client.
QueryThe criteria that define which brand, product, or topic Syncly should collect and analyze data for.
PostAn individual piece of social content collected based on Query conditions.
For first-time users, we recommend starting with the workspace and prepared Queries that the Syncly team has already set up.

1. Access your workspace

First, open the Syncly link you received. After logging in, select the Production Workspace that the Syncly team has prepared for you. Within a workspace, Query, Dashboard, Post, Hey Syncly, and Report are managed together. A demo workspace usually includes several prepared Queries, so we recommend reviewing those before creating a new one.

What to check

  • Make sure you are in the correct workspace.
  • First, check which brands, products, or topics the prepared Queries cover.
  • If your menu looks different, some features may be limited depending on your permissions or demo setup.

2. Review a prepared Query

A Query is the starting point for analysis in Syncly. It contains the brand, product, or topic you want to analyze, along with the collection conditions. If you are using Syncly for the first time, we recommend opening a prepared Query and checking what data has been collected before creating a Query yourself. Once you understand the review flow, you can also try creating a new Query.

Try it

  1. In your workspace, go to the Query list.
  2. Select one of the prepared Queries.
  3. Check the Query name and analysis target.
  4. Go to the Query Dashboard to review the results.

Example Query types

TypeWhen to use it
BrandWhen you want to understand social reactions to your own brand or a competitor brand.
ProductWhen you want to understand reactions to a specific product or product line.
TopicWhen you want to analyze a broader subject, such as a campaign, issue, or consumer interest.

Try creating a new Query

After reviewing the prepared Queries, you can try creating a new Query as part of the demo flow. When creating a new Query, choose the type that matches your analysis goal—Brand, Product, or Topic—then enter the name and keyword or target information.

3. Explore Posts

A Post is an individual piece of social content collected based on Query conditions. By reviewing Posts, you can see which original content the Dashboard metrics are based on.

Try it

  1. Open the Post list from the Query Dashboard.
  2. Select a Post that interests you.
  3. Review the original content, author/platform, key metrics, and analysis results.
  4. If needed, use filters or sorting to narrow the Post list to specific conditions.

Useful ways to review Posts for the first time

  • Check which platforms have the most collected content.
  • Start with Posts that have high Engagement.
  • Look for Posts with notably positive or negative reactions.
  • Check whether any irrelevant Posts are included.

4. Review key metrics in the Dashboard

The Dashboard gives you an at-a-glance view of the overall results for a Query. It summarizes collected Posts as metrics, charts, and tables. Instead of reviewing every chart in detail at first, we recommend scanning the Dashboard in this order.

1) Check overall scale

First, check how much data the Query contains.
  • Number of Posts, or number of Posts by Mention
  • Metrics related to Impression or View
  • Metrics related to Engagement
  • Distribution by platform
Review whether reactions increased or decreased over time.
  • Whether reactions spiked on specific dates
  • Whether metric changes align with campaign or issue timelines
  • Whether trends differ by brand or product

3) Understand the nature of reactions

Go beyond volume and check what kind of reactions people had.
  • Positive, negative, and neutral reactions
  • Frequently appearing themes
  • High-performing content types
  • Recurring consumer needs or complaints

Key metrics to check first

MetricDescriptionHow to read it
MentionAn analysis axis for breaking down data by Mention. In customer-facing documentation, it is usually interpreted as the number of Posts that include a specific Mention.Use it to understand how often the analysis target is being discussed.
ViewA view-based metric provided by each platform.Use it to understand the scale of actual content views. Note that not every platform provides views in the same way.
ImpressionA Syncly-standard metric for comparing how widely content was exposed, adjusted for differences in metrics provided by each platform.Because source metrics differ by platform, use this for cross-platform comparison and trend checks rather than as an absolute reach count.
EngagementThe total number of user reactions to content, such as saves, comments, likes, and shares.Use it to understand how strongly people reacted, not just how widely content was seen.
Engagement RateEngagement divided by Views. If Views are 0, this is calculated as 0.Use it to compare how strong reactions were relative to view volume.
SentimentAn AI-generated analysis result that labels a Post as Positive, Neutral, or Negative based on its context.Use it in charts and filters to compare the direction of reactions.

How Impression is calculated

Because the source metrics provided by each platform differ, Syncly calculates Impression using the following rules.
PlatformImpression calculation
FacebookLikes + comments
Instagram PostLikes + comments
RedditUpvotes + comments
Other platformsViews
If platform data policies or collection methods change, metric calculation rules may also be updated.

5. Exclude irrelevant Posts as Noise

Social data can include Posts that are not directly related to your analysis target. You can mark these Posts as Noise to exclude them from analysis results or manage them separately.

When is a Post considered Noise?

For example, the following cases may be Noise:
  • Posts that use the same word but are unrelated to the target brand or product
  • Ads, spam, or repetitive content that interferes with analysis
  • Content collected in a way that does not match the intent of the Query

Try it

  1. In the Post list, select a Post that appears irrelevant.
  2. Use the mark as Noise or exclude function.
  3. Check whether the Dashboard metrics or Post list update afterward.

6. Ask questions with Hey Syncly

Hey Syncly lets you ask questions about the data collected in Syncly using natural language and receive AI-powered answers. When using it for the first time, it’s best to ask short questions while reviewing the Dashboard rather than starting with complex prompts.

Example questions

  • “What were the most-mentioned issues during this period?”
  • “What do Posts with many positive reactions have in common?”
  • “Compared with competitor brands, what are our brand’s strengths?”
  • “Create a key summary I can include in a Report.”

Try it

  1. Open Hey Syncly.
  2. Select the Query or filter conditions you want to analyze.
  3. Enter your question.
  4. When the answer has been generated, review it.
  5. If needed, use the answer when drafting a Report.

7. Review and share Reports

A Report lets you organize analysis results as a document and share them externally when needed. If you received a demo workspace, review Hey Syncly and the Dashboard first, then open an existing Report to understand how Syncly analysis results are ultimately delivered.

Try it

  1. Open the Report list or a Report link that was shared with you.
  2. Check the Report title and the Query being analyzed.
  3. Review the included charts, comments, and key Posts.
  4. If needed, share it with others using a share link.

What to check

  • A Report freezes the data and content at the time it is created as a Snapshot.
  • Editing a Report does not change the original Dashboard.
  • Even if the original Dashboard changes later, the data and content in an existing Report do not update automatically.
  • When creating a Share Link, you can set a Password and Expiration date.
  • A Report shared through a Public Link can be viewed by external users without logging in.
  • If you delete a Share Link or make it private, people who previously received the link will no longer be able to view it.
